in which i talk about books & new york city & writing. and in which i expound upon my love for nell.

i also write the kissing tree and translate nell interviews and lyrics on & the things left behind.

here’s more from jisan because i’m feeling sad at the moment:

Combining things from eAeon and Nell:

-  This guy standing in front of me yelled out, ‘멋지다!’ to eAeon, and eAeon’s response was, ‘I think the contrabass is very 멋져.’  Yep.

-  It was hot (have I not yet established this clearly enough?), so eAeon’s advice to the crowd?  ‘Remember to put sunblock on the back of your neck because people forget and only the back of their neck turns brown.’

-  After a few tracks, eAeon had to give in and remove the long-sleeved shirt he’d been wearing over his T.  Lots of cheering commenced.  And I think he threw a towel into the crowd after his set was over.

-  The sound check for Jaewon was pretty merciless.  Jaewon had to work through each drum individually then test out a rhythm, not just once but several times, and, of the sound checks I saw, Nell’s was the most rigorous (and I saw a decent handful because I love sound checks).  Even Radiohead was more set-up, less sound check, but Nell pretty much used up all the time they had working through Jaewon first, then Junghoon, Jaekyung, Jongwan.  Actually, first thing I heard when walking across the lawn was Jongwan testing the mic briefly …

-  After Standing in the Rain, Jongwan commented on how strange it was to have sung Standing in the Rain whilst the sun was mercilessly beating down on us, and it was kind of strange to have heard it whilst we were dying under the sun but no less awesome.

-  Jongwan’s voice is omg-I-DIE-awesome, but his mic should’ve been turned up more.  And he seriously mumbles all his ments into the mic, which is fine when you’re watching a recording and not so great when you’re in a crowd with lots of tall people around you.

-  Junghoon’s mic had problems, too; you couldn’t hear him when he started singing in 백색왜성 and when he tried to give a ment, too.

-  I think Junghoon might have spoken more than Jongwan?  I could be wrong.  I don’t really remember, but I remember thinking that because Jongwan didn’t really say much in the beginning …

-  Nell went over time oh-so-briefly, and I loved their setlist, but 50 minutes is too fucking short.  It went by like nothing.  Sigh.

-  Also, Jongwan’s pants were really tight.  The skinny jeans thing really needs to die now, please, because I love you, Wan, I really do, but no.
