‘never let me go’

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read Never Let Me Go; I’m sure I could find the number if I wanted to; but that doesn’t matter — it’s only a number after all — but the novel doesn’t lose any of its power, even with each new reread.  If I were asked what my favourite book was, it’d indubitably have to be this, especially considering how regularly and how often I return to it and how I simply can’t put it down once I’ve picked it up again.

Gah.

Still breaks my heart and twists me up inside.  And then lurking beneath all that is just sheer awe at Ishiguro’s ability to capture voice so fully.  So few books have this many strong, haunting feelings attached to it really …
